Bob Shrum: The Bin Laden Tape Cost Kerry The 2004 Election

(image via observer)

Robert Shrum, who was the chief strategist for the 2004 Kerry- Edwards campaign, was on NPR's Brian Lehrer Show this morning. He spoke about the state of this election, but also looked backwards, to 2004. "I think (the Osama Bin-Laden video) cost John Kerry the (2004) election ... I think if something like that happened again, people would draw back and say 'hold up, we're not going down that path' .."

This is actually a pretty scary thought. he chief strategist of the Democrats campaign for the 2004 election is actually blaming a terrorist, Public Enemy #1, for swaying the 2004 election.

Yikes.

A terrorist was responsible for Kerry losing the election. That terrorist was Richard B Cheney, aided and abetted by Karl Rove's "steal the vote" operation.

Bush attributes his 2004 victory over John Kerry in part to a Osama bin Laden videotape released about 48 hours before the general election:

"I thought it was going to help", Bush decided. "I thought it would help remind people that if bin Laden doesnt want Bush to be the president, something must be right with Bush."

How stupid must the American people be to fall for obvious desperate tactics such as the terror card? Who can even verify that it actually IS bin Laden on these tapes, or just a guy who plays him on TV?

If they did trot out another 'terrorist tape' what would be more scary...the thought of a competent, intelligent, thoughtful man like Obama in the driver's seat? Or a wild-eyed poser who has a life record that's mirrored George W. Bush's--Attended schools thanks to his daddy's good name and checkbook, near-lowest in his class, reckless pilot who caused several near misses and a few devastations resulting in lives lost, a party-on frat boy mentality, an adulterer who left his wife and kids for an heiress, a serial liar? Sings about bombing Iran and then says he's got sound judgment. Doesn't know how many houses he owns then calls Sen. Obama an elitist. Gets creds for being an American hero, when the reason his unit was taken prisoner was because of his reckless judgment in the first place. And because of his daddy's standing, his POW experience was in the Hanoi Hilton - definitely not the same conditions that 'regular Joes' had to bear.

And then there's the frightening thought of Sarah Palin being just a melanoma away from that three a.m. phone call.

We've lived an eight-year nightmare of fraud, corruption, lies, murders and war, while watching our economy get looted by the Bush government of greedy war profiteers and their corporate cronies.

And in these eight years, who's been held accountable? Who's been prosecuted for any crimes? Who's serving time in Federal prison? No one.

Another strategically planned terrorist alert would be a pathetic tactic from a presidential candidate who's run a disastrous campaign, showed incredibly flawed judgment all along the way and has proven to be lying just about every time he opens his mouth. So expect it to happen around October 31st.

It would be a tragedy of immense proportions if the Karl Rove voting machine stole yet another election and McCain-Palin were appointed winners... not just for Americans but for the entire world.

I don't think so - I was definitely not excited about Kerry in 2004. My vote was a vote against Bush (I even seriously thought about voting 3rd party because I was so disgusted with the dems). I know for people who didn't feel as strongly as I probably looked at both candidates and said, "meh. might as well stick with Bush." the video might have swayed some people - but how could Shrum possibly think that the "terror card" helped push Bush over the edge? Kerry was a lackluster candidate. There is no comparison between him and what Obama is doing this election.

McCain will win, election rigged. Until that changes expect non-stop Republican rule!
