Dr. Cornell West, Abigail Thernstrom and Maria Hinojosa, managing editor and host of NPR's Latino USA were on The Brian Lehrer Show talking about race and the race.
"I think it has tremendous importance ... to have a black face as the public face of American democracy, of American empire ... gives people a sense of a paradigm shift," West said of a future Obama administration.
"If he decides to rule as a centrist, or even to rule from the right, the substance begins to rub off."
Cornell West will be on this week's "Real Time with Bill Maher," the last episode before the November 2008 election.
