Media-Whore's D'Oevres

Lunch at Michael's: "(Table) 4. Barry Diller and Mr. Grey .. When executive producer Brad Grey walked in, the crowd perked up and more than a few diners were overheard whispering they'd like to march over to his table a demand an explanation for the final heart-stopping scene. Alas, Grey was so animated during his tête-á-tête with Barry Diller no one dared to interrupt, so the confounding mystery remains .. "(Table) 28. Tina Brown" (FishBowlNY)

Governor Richardson?! "As we get up from our seats to visit the play-by-play announcer's booth, Richardson does something I've never seen any politician do. There are two women sitting in front of us. They are both young and attractive, probably in their twenties. The governor rotates his large frame sideways and shimmies out of his row. The two women smile up at him. As he passes, Richardson reaches down and places his fingertips on the head of one of the women, tickling her scalp as he opens and closes his hand. Then, as he reaches for the next scalp, his hand suddenly aborts its mission, as if the governor realizes this wasn't such a good idea after all." (TNR)

"Ian Schrager is sure getting a bang for his buck in opening his rooftop patio and terrace above the Gramercy Park Hotel. Last Thursday, he and Nur Khan hosted an intimate dinner for 60 in honor of Padma Lakshmi, toasting the third season of Top Chef (which premieres tonight on Bravo) and her second season as host, as well as the forthcoming debut of her book of international recipes, Tangy, Tart, Hot & Sweet. Clad in a Roberto Cavalli chiffon printed gown, Lakshmi, whose husband Salman Rushdie was in London and missed the fête, entertained her eclectic dinner guests, which ranged from Iman, Jane Krakowski, and Francesco Clemente to Andrew Saffir, Luca Orlandi, and Irina Pantaeva." "U.S. policy towards the Palestinians suffered a serious blow on Wednesday, when fighters loyal to Hamas seized control of nearly all of the 30-mile stretch of land known as the Gaza Strip. Ever since Islamic Militant Hamas won the Palestinian legislative elections 18 months ago, Washington has worked to strengthen President Mahmoud Abbas, who, for all his failings, was seen as the best hope for concluding a peace accord with Israel. The U.S had spent millions of dollars training security forces that were supposedly disciplined and loyal to Abbas, but as Hamas militia advanced across Gaza on a third day of fierce fighting, many of these simply cut and ran; at least 40 officers of Abbas's elite presidential guard blew a hole in the Israeli security wall corralling Gaza and fled into Egypt." "Wow. what a busy week. The madness began on Sunday night at The Box, where we celebrated our coverboy Rufus Wainwright's new CD with a performance and party .. Last night we went to see the band and they were fantastic. Hormones were raging with two pregger performers: Jorjee, who is ready to pop this week, and Karen Elson, who disguised her big belly well (she's due in August) .. Actually, I was also blown away by Karen's voice. This girl has been practicing. I see a big musical future for her for sure. But the mindbender was definitely Angela McClusky, whose deep husky, soulful voice gave me goosebumps. The audience was fashioned out for sure. We sat next to Anna Sui, who told me she's leaving for Thailand this week and Paul Cavaco (creative director of Allure). Bruce Weber was at the next table as well and supposedly Italian Vogue was there shooting them." (Papermag)
