Feinstein to Vote "No" on Roberts

Although we were surprised to hear over the weekend that Senator Diane Feinstein was leaning towards a "yes" vote on the all-but-confirmed Judge Roberts, she ultimately vote no (Which, in retrospect, makes us feel silly for believing otherwise). We'll admit: it sounded dodgy at the get-go. Why would a woman's rights activist vote "yea" on someone who presents a wild card on abortion with the New Hampshire notification case due up before the court. Says the AP (link via guardian):

"A second Judiciary Committee Democrat - Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California - announced Thursday she would oppose Supreme Court nominee John Roberts as his nomination made its way to the full Senate.

"Feinstein, the committee's only woman, said her vote was decided after Roberts refused to fully answer her and other Democrats' questions in his confirmation hearing last week.

"'I knew as little about what Judge Roberts really thought about issues after the hearings as I did before the hearing. This makes it very hard for me,'' said Feinstein, an abortion rights supporter.

"'I cannot in good conscious cast a yea vote. I will cast a no vote,' she said."

yes. That's not much by way of new news, but I heard -- falsely -- that Feinstein was actually leraning towards endorsing Roberts. (In retrospect, kind of crazy that I believed it)
