Fashion Week Daily Wrap Up

Marilyn Kirschner of LookOnline has taken to calling Fashion Week the "March of the Penguins," because, she surmises, everything is "going dotty with polka dots in every size and shape; ruffles; shorts of every length and proportion." Other observations online of the scene inside the tents:
The brilliant Chris Wilson, of the New York Post: "(Marc Jacobs) was so enamored with a Ruffian dress he saw on one of his models the day before his show, he made a copy of the navy blue number and displayed it as one of his own creations on Monday night.
"Wolk says that model Sonya Wanda who walked in Ruffian's show on Sunday wore the dress Ruffian gave her as payment to her fitting for Jacobs' show.
"'Marc saw it on her and loved it, Wolk claims. 'He said, I'm going to knock it off."
That's not all that was "knocked off (Averted Gaze)." A French journo flown in by Lacoste was found "pleasuring himself (Exaggerated cough suggesting feigned detachment)" in another writer's shower.
This, from the Observer's Transom, puts it all into perspective post-Katrina: "At 9 p.m.after Liev Schreiber, Jimmy Fallon, Gabby Hoffman, Cecily Brown, Rachel Feinstein and Yvonne Force Villareal crammed themselves into the first row at Tara Subkoffs Imitation of Christ show for an eyeful of denim and dildoschaos ruled in Bryant Park for Tommy Hilfigers 20th-anniversary show. A thin-looking Jay-Z arrived, without Beyonc. The disappointment was palpable. At 9:10 p.m., the show was over. Jesse Metcalf walked out alone in a green sweater and jeans.
'It wasnt over the top, but it wasnt under,' said Princess, a finalist contestant from Mr. Hilfigers reality show The Cut. At the back of the tent, a model sneered: 'Are you guys going to Crobar?'"
This, from USA Today: "The celeb factor was low at the Nanette Lepore show (only The View's Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Garcelle Beauvais, and MTV alum Karen Duffy could be spotted in the front row) but the audience satisfaction was high. Lepore got a partial standing ovation for her tropical-themed collection, which relied heavily on floral prints. (Either that, or the crowd was particularly pleased with the iced cookies left on every chair)"
From Rachel at FishbowlNY, "Apparently one Andr Leon Talley graced Michael's with his ber-presence yesterday, dining in well-shod style with George Malkemus, President of Manolo Blahnik."
From our favorite social chronicler, David Patrick Columbia, at NYSocialDiary: "The first three sections by the entrance to the runway at the Oscar (de la Renta) show is seated by Boaz (Mazor) with a lot of his clients and their friends. Too numerous to mention. Annette de la Renta was there seated next to her pal Barbara Walters. Melania Trump was there seated next to her pal, Donald Trump. I was between Stephanie Krieger and Carolyn Roehm who once worked for Oscar and later went off and had a very successful couture line of her own. Across the aisle from this section were the younger ladies (including Ivana and Donald Trumps beautiful daughter Ivanka). It is always interesting to see the contrast between their way of dressing and the established social ladies. In the past it was noticeable. This year it wasnt."
Marilyn Kirschner on Zang Toi: "There were some really beautiful black silk faille and organza evening gowns, some with ruffled trim, a khaki silk satin organza beaded damask floor length caftan, and a show stopping group of black silk satin dresses whose hems were entirely beaded with vivid wild African orchids. The finale featured black silk chiffon gowns with embroidered raffia and ruby or amethyst native African collar."
