From Style.com: "Vera Wang is having a moment. She won the CFDA award in June. Her resort collection, which combined the American sensibility of Claire McCardell with the vibrant palette of Matisse, earned raves from buyers and editors alike. And she continued that momentum by introducing a collection in a similar vein for spring. This time, she injected a new, raw edge into the formula, courtesy of the HBO frontier drama Deadwood. 'The idea was to do primitive,' said Wang backstage. 'Matisse's models dressed not unlike the female characters on that show.'"

And, ancillary to that, our first Fashion Week read of the day, the excellent Chris Wilson of the NYPost: "VERA Wang was denied backstage entry to her own show yesterday by some clueless clipboard-wielder. 'They said, 'Who are you?' and she was like, 'I'm f- - -ing Vera Wang,' snickered one witness. 'She finally pushed past, still cursing at them, with her assistant scrambling behind her.'"

This, from British Vogue: "ELISSA BROMER, who left Perry Ellis to become president of Heatherette in February, has left the company already."

From New York Magazine's FashionWeek blog: "How Hot Was Calvin Klein? ... It was so hot that Vogue editor Anna Wintour and Fairchild Editorial Director Patrick McCarthy apparently walked out. Oops." And, at Boy George's B-Rude show, Daniel Maurer writes: "There was rousing applause for supermodel Janice Dickinson, who strutted down the runway literally like a peacock. She was practically the only model who didnt wear a day-glo, foot-tall Mohawk."

USA Today writes: "Lauren Bush, President Bush's niece, sat front row at Ralph Lauren. She probably could've gotten the primo position on her own, but it certainly helps that she's dating Lauren's son David. Also in attendance: Naomi Campbell, Anna Wintour and Andre Leon Talley."

From Jim Shi of Fashionweekdaily: "Those vying for a front-row seat at Fridays most coveted shows just saw their chances at obtaining one go up a notch. Harpers Bazaar editor in chief Glenda Bailey will be MIA at the majority of New York Fashion Weeks last day of showsDonna Karan, Derek Lam, Ralph Lauren and L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stefani are some of the scheduled designersbecause, as The Daily first reported on Monday, she will be on a flight to the South of France for the wedding of Delphine Arnault and Vallarino Alessandro. And rightly so. Her magazine has secured exclusive rights to coverage of Arnaults Saturday nuptials at the Chteau dYquem in Bordeaux ..." (more here)

From Lloyd Grove's Lowdown: "That was Naomi Campbell living up to her superdiva reputation by keeping a CNN crew waiting two hours for an interview in the Bryant Park tents Wednesday. When she finally showed up in the W Hotels' Backstage Bungalow to tape the segment, she caused interviewer Richard Quest to erupt in laughter when she insisted:

"'I'm very, very sensitive. Things affect me deeply. I'm a very sweet, very kind person.'

"Yesterday, Campbell's reps seemed to be in spin overdrive, as not one but two of her publicists called back within minutes of Lowdown's query.

"'She had to do a press conference for Fashion for Relief, a fashion show to raise money for Katrina victims,' said one of the flacks." And, evidently(Haughtily sniffs), to steal the limelight from Gwen Stefani.
