Media-Whore D'Oevres

"Two nights ago, actress Liv Tyler, along with guest DJs Alexandra and Theodora Richards, hosted a fun star-studded soiree at the Gramercy Park Hotel's Rose Bar. The party was for the launch of jewelry line Hearts on Fire's Architectural Collection, and boasted some of rock 'n' roll, Hollywood, and society's finest. In one corner, you had clan Mortimer (Tinsley and Topper Mortimer, Dabney Mercer and Peter Davis) and in the other you had team Richards (Keith and Patty and their two gorgeous, hot, fun and super chic daughters Alex and Theo) .. later in the evening a number of us migrated down to to Beatrice, where Kiera Knightley could be seen shaking her moneymaker and signing along to the beats. Ten feet away, Kirsten Dunst presided over the club of cool from behind the DJ booth." (Papermag)

"Thursday dawns with a cool cloudy sky and a touch of fall in the air. By the time ten o’clock rolls around the sun is out, warming things up in time for Vera Wang’s show. Crowds throng the steps of Bryant Park’s fashion tent. Smartly dressed girls hand out copies of The Daily, WWD, and the Wall Street Journal’s new magazine .. The tent is filling fast, the paparazzi lights are blinding and warm. Blonde Elizabeth Banks, star of Sea Biscuit, is commanding their attention. Her only competition, in the celebrity corner, is Venus Williams, clad in a stunning black Vera Wang ensemble that accentuates her height. She makes Joanne de Guardiola and me, two tall girls, feel like midgets as we look up at all 6”2” of her. (Friendly and warm, with a great smile, she shook our hands afterwards as we trooped backstage to congratulate Vera.)" (Jamee Gregory/NYSocialDiary)

"The 2008 Toronto International Film Festival is winding down. With just two days left before the Closing Night Gala and the announcement of the awards, many industry folk have begun to head out. But there remains much to discuss, as the last few days was obviously marked with a large amount of worthy events. indieWIRE looks over just a handful of them, including the premieres of Adria Petty's 'Paris, Not France,' Matt Tyrnauer's "Valentino: The Last Emperor," Matt Aselton's 'Gigantic,' and Derick Martini 's 'Lymelife.'" "One dark horse news story that may yet make waves is China's high-level trade talks with the U.S. next week out on the West Coast. While the press has been good enough to completely ignore this, FYI our trade deficit exploded over the summer. Look for a small blurb in a back page somewhere about a new agreement between the superpowers." (TheTurnerReport)

"MARY-Kate and Ashley Olsen always complain they want more privacy - so why are they drawing so much attention to themselves on their quiet West Village block? Residents on West 13th Street are annoyed by the tiny twins' 'military presence.' One neighbor fumed to Page Six, 'They are disruptive, intrusive and totally disrespectful.' In May, The Post's Braden Keil reported the multimillionaires were renting two floors of a brownstone on West 13th for $12,000 a month. A source reported seeing the party princesses 'piling out of their gas guzzlers in their little club outfits' in the wee hours." (PageSix)

"John McCain won't attend a gathering of religious conservatives this weekend -- and the Republican presidential nominee won't have to ask forgiveness. The Arizona senator's selection of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate has appeased the evangelical and social conservatives who form his party's core voters. Now, they are letting him know that he doesn't need to further demonstrate his fealty." (Bloomberg)

"At last night's Vanity Fair gathering at the Lambertson Truex boutique uptown in honor of a tote designed by artist Donald Baechler, actress and socialite Annie Churchill wasn't doing much better. 'My throat hurts. I'm about to faint. My feet hurt. I don't feel pretty anymore—I feel washed out, my hair is drab, and I have these terrible bags under my eyes,' said Ms. Churchill said in a flat, defeated voice. 'I even tried to put cucumbers and ice on my face earlier, but it didn't work. A few days ago I had a total breakdown where I slept all day and missed everything. I just couldn't get out of bed anymore, it felt like I'd been hit by a truck," she continued. "I call it Truckitus actually or a Gemini breakdown; I have one every few months.'" (Observer)

"The Debbie Downers running the Mini Cooper rooftop Wednesday night were doing their darnedest to keep the guest count under 200 and stub out every last cigarette in the (hello, people!) open-air venue. Despite all the extra elbow room, though, the V Magazine party hummed right along, and smokers lit up with insouciance. Rachel Zoe, Joy Bryant, and Barbara Bush dropped by to swap fashion week banter and catch the performance by Swedish pop star Lykke Li. And since the party was in honor of a new issue featuring 14 different cover girls, the place was crawling with models." (Style)
