Rose McGowan Says Something Stupid

As you'll recall, this blog has been on Rose McGowan's case. We're all up in her psychodrama. Mostly we dislike McGowan because she has squandered the opportunity of being an actress able to call the shots in in multimillion dollar films to basically prop up her own eggshell fragile self-image as a badass (Exaggerated cough suggesting feigned detachment). Jack Nicholson sort of did the same thing in the late 80s, phoning in his roles as a womanizing punk, but quickly regained his equilibrium and realized that the film industry does not simply exists to affirm his smug sense of self (Averted Gaze). Rose McGowan, unfortunately, is still hopelessly clueless on how much she comes off the opposite of what she so clumsily projects.

In her latest media incarnation/self-presentation of being the "American Badass," McGowan crossed the lines of propriety. Imagine our surprise! From TheHollywoodReporter:

"The producers of Toronto International Film Festival entry 'Fifty Dead Men Walking' have taken the unusual step of distancing themselves from comments made by the film's star, Rose McGowan.

"McGowan caused a widely reported controversy last week when she said that she would have joined the Irish Republican Army had she lived in Belfast during the Troubles. She said she could understand why people turned to violence during that time in Northern Ireland.

"In a statement sent to The Hollywood Reporter, producers said they oppose the comments made by McGowan during a Toronto news conference for the film.

"The backers 'regret any distress' that McGowan's comments may have caused 'to people of Northern Ireland and particularly those who were victims of or caught up in the shocking events that existed during the conflict."

"The statement goes on: 'Ms. McGowan's views were private ones, and as such they greatly saddened the film's producers.'"

Less is more, Rose. Someone might want to tell McGowan that a bona fide American badass never has to tell everyone what a badass they are. For further reference see Rachel Maddow taking on Pat Buchanan.
