LX.TV Searches For America's Top Bartender

One could argue that the search for "America's Top Bartender" is a singular quest that The Corsair has embarked upon, with an ironic sobriety, for years (Averted Gaze). All those boozy evenings spent, you see, in the company of sordid barmaids in Hells Kitchen was a contribution to the marketplace of ideas (The Corsair sips a fruity cab with terroir). Yeah. All those single malt scotches. It was for the progress of the mind; it was all towards the advancement of human knowledge, you see.

Now, apparently, LX.TV is getting in on the act -- with Lance Bass' ex boyfriend as the host -- casting for 10 cast contestant/mixologists to vie for $100,000. What is LX.TV you may ask? The Wall Street Journal described the enterprise thusly:

"Find attractive young people. Put them in front of a camera. Surround them with expensive clothes, throbbing music, potent potables, fashionable nosh and more attractive, affluent young people."

Think: Jason Binn for the Web TV startup set. Only LX.TV was purchased by NBC Local Media Division in January 2008, so it warrants, slightly, our attention. From the press release:

"Debuting on lxtv.com/ontherocks beginning November 8, 2008, the reality series will encompass 12 episodes with each segment highlighting a different mixology-specific challenge. Hosted by sexy nightlife impresario Pedro Andrade, contestants will have to demonstrate their talent, knowledge, speed, accuracy and agility in the face of a teeming crowd of thirsty bar patrons who demand cocktail supremacy and service with style. Keeping their cool and knowing they are hot will help them score tips and customers' phone numbers, all part of the competition. Each week, the judges will select a winner, who will reign supreme for another week, and a loser, who will be disqualified and asked to leave the show. Contestants are pitted against one another to serve up delicious libations with a twist as the judges determine who is the best!"
