Taking a Break From Acting

What's up with this new celebrity trend in which the stars take a break from acting. Like, emoting on film and walking on red carpets and having your every word make it into print or tv and having lots of sex with hotties from around the world and making $20 mil a picture is a hard-knock-life. What's up with that? Taking a break from blogging, well, if you tell me that, The Corsair can understand -- the pressure, the angry emails, the abuse of crack cocaine, the punishing and anonymous late night blogger goupie sex *sigh*; but taking some time off from being a superstar, hey now -- The Corsair can't feel your pain; it does not compute.

One would think that after struggling to attain a certain position in Tinseltown, that said actor would fight tooth and nail to maintain. Quite the contrary.

First, Julia Roberts decided to take five years off to be with her twins, and now, like the junior varsity cheerleader rocking her older "sisters'" outfits, Renee Zellwegger, according to Bob Tourtellotte of Reuters, is doing the taking some getting-to-know-me time:

"After 'Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason' begins playing in theaters on Friday, Zellweger, 35, said she plans to step away from the limelight, stop acting for a while and learn what it is like to be 'just a girl.' "

The Corsair, hugely amused, tucks into a plate of "beef cheeks."

"'I don't see myself climbing into a makeup chair any time soon and taking another role. I feel like I need to take a minute and have a little bit of life experience,' Zellweger told Reuters in a recent interview."

She's not pushing us away from her, she's just pushing herself closer to Renee. And that's not all -- Mos Def is "taking a break," Arnold Schwarzenegger is "taking a break from acting,(Averted Gaze)" while he governs Cal-ee-forneea, and even Paramount studio head, Sherry Lansing, a relatively young 60, is retiring.

The Corsair washes down the succulent beef cheeks with some Riunite on ice, cause he keeps it real.

Do they know something that we mere mortals don't about Hollywood?
