Media-Whore D'Oevres

"As the world is distracted by Russia's unimpeded incursion into Georgia, the Sudanese are using the geopolitical pandemonium as cover to launch assaults on rebel-held areas of North Darfur. Rebel leaders are alleging that the military action was undertaken to clear space for Chinese oil exploration. And while that little chestnut didn't make A1 above-the-fold of The New York Times this week, Mia Farrow -- God bless her for her vigilance on this issue -- is on it and on the ground in Darfur, fighting on the side of the angels." "HBO announced that all seasons of the Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning comedy series 'Entourage' is available for purchase and download on the iTunes Store. Starting today, 'Entourage' seasons one and two are available for download for $1.99 per episode, season three arrives on August 18, and season four will be available on August 26. The highly anticipated premiere of season five airs September 7 on HBO." (Variety)

"John McCain's presidential campaign lacks the support of several Republican-leaning industries central to President George W. Bush's record-setting fundraising four years ago. Democrat Barack Obama has captured $9.6 million in donations from employees working for securities, mortgage and drug companies, compared with McCain's $6.6 million. In 2004, people in those industries gave $10.6 million to Bush and $5.4 million to Democratic nominee John Kerry, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, a research group in Washington. McCain's inability to match Bush's performance in attracting traditional Republican donors illustrates the fundraising gap between the candidates." (Bloomberg)

"At noontime I went down to FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) as a guest of Dr. Valerie Steele, the FIT Museum’s director and Liz Peek, Sarah Wolfe, and Yaz Hernandez, founders of FIT’s Couture Council. They wanted to show me what they were setting up for the Museum’s next exhibition which will be entitled 'Gothic: Dark Glamour' .. I was there, I soon learned, to hear about the upcoming benefit luncheon that FIT’s Couture Council is giving at the Rainbow Room on September 3rd, honoring Isabel Toledo with the Couture Council Award for Artistry of Fashion Award. Andre Leon Talley will present and Simon Doonan will emcee .. The luncheon will kick off Fashion Week in New York." (NYSocialDiary)

"Maybe for those sexy jeans, found at the 7 For All Mankind shop that had a major party last night featuring Tim Mantoani's photographs of famous photographers with their fave snaps .. there were many many more at this spirited party on a dreary, rainy New York night." (Papermag)
