Does this look 16? (image via the AP)
What. The. Fu-u-ck?! What is up with China and their athletes? The television screen keeps saying, "15," and "16," but it appears to The Corsair -- a rational observer -- that these are quite clearly kids, probably pre-pubescent, that have been almost probably been abused into becoming specialized athletes in a single sport for the greater glory of the People's Republic of China.
It is sort of an iffy business competing against a country that is ambivalent about issues of human rights and individualism, at home and abroad. Add to the fact that China wants to beat the United States -- and everyone else -- in gold medals, to solidify their standing as a superpower in this unofficial-official "coming out" ceremony.
"Iffy" and ugly.
