Holbrooke: Saakashvili Was In Italy Trying To Lose Weight

Fareed Zakaria's GPS on CNN is one of, if not the, smartest shows on television. It approaches international relations with some of the highest practitioners of the craft. This week former Ambassador Richard Holbrooke spoke on the subject of Russia's incursion into Georgia, dropping off a little gossip. Holbrooke let fly that the 38-year old American educated President of Georgia, "was in Italy trying to lose weight" as the Russians invaded (Exaggerated cough suggesting feigned detachment).

Russia, emboldened by oil revenues and shrugged by President Bush's inane US policy towards Russia, gladly helped Saakashvili lose a few "pounds" by purloining the South Ossetia region.
