"3am wishes rocker Meat Loaf all the best after he was rushed to hospital last night with a 'vertigo attack.' It was a bad end to a bizarre day for the rocker, who was acting strangely throughout the ceremony. After winning the Classic Song Award for Bat Out Of Hell, the singer, 61, staggered on stage looking a bit worse for wear, mumbled and nearly fell into the crowd." (3AMGirls)

"I don't know if a phrase exists in Icelandic to say 'This sucker could go down', as George W. Bush, US president, remarked last week. But if there is, Icelandic leaders might need it soon. Iceland's travails have not been front page news this week in most of Europe or the US given the wider storm, but the story that has played out in Reykjavik might be a financial morality tale for us all." "The band Camp Freddy -- Billy Morrison, Dave Navarro, Chris Chaney and Donovan Leitch -- gigged it last weekend outdoors in Malibu for the opening of John Varvatos' new shop in the Country Mart, a.k.a. Malibu celebrity central. Cindy Crawford, Perry Farrell, 90210's Ryan Eggold and Varvatos were all there." (Papermag)

"Russian strategic bombers flying over the Sea of Japan were intercepted by Japanese fighter jets on two occasions today before returning to base. The two Tu-22M3 strategic bombers left an air base in Russia's Far East as part of a training exercise, Stability 2008, Russian Air Force spokesman Vladimir Drik said by telephone in Moscow. As they flew over the Sea of Japan they were 'accompanied' for about 30 minutes by two Japanese F-15 fighter jets,' he said." (Bloomberg)

"When McCain gestured to Obama and condescendingly referred to him as 'that one'. 'That one'? Not even 'that candidate over there'? Or at least 'that man'? Yikes! It was almost as cold as when Cindy McCain came out at the end and barely acknowledged her hubby." (Musto)

"'It's the Brazilian spirit, darling!' proclaimed Carlos Souza. 'Deal with it!' The Parisians were more than happy to oblige when he invited the top du top to a stunning floor-through apartment on the Quai d'Orsay owned by Donata Meireles, international director of Daslu, and her husband Nizan Guanaes, owner of Claro Rio Summer ... The DJ spun a few more Brazilian standards before offering up some disco hits. When 'It's Raining Men!' took to the speakers, Michael Roberts and Elizabeth Saltzman began a boogie so inspired that even the normally reserved Cindy Weber Cleary (in J.Brand jeans and rocking the on-trend transparency look) was compelled to join." "Yesterday was a beautiful sunny autumn day in New York; temperatures in the high 60s. At noontime I went down to the Metropolitan Club on 60th and Fifth where the Lighthouse International was holding its annual fundraising Henry A. Grunwald Award for Public Service ... The incomparable Liz Smith emceed the event. She first introduced Tara Cortes, President and CEO of Lighthouse Int’l, and then Charlie Rose introduced honorees Elaine and Steve Wynn and Rosalind Bernier introduced honoree John Richardson."
