Reactions To A Black Captain America

Isaiah Bradley, notwithstanding(image via galaxyriders)

Captain America as metaphor? Earlier this week in the geekosphere there was a rumor that Will Smith had been offered the role of Captain America. That rumor was quickly debunked, but not before some amazing -- and, of course, anonymous -- comments were sprayed all over the blogs. Clay Shirky Twittered, "Here is why I fear Obama will lose" then posted a link to a "Will Smith Is (Possibly Maybe) Captain America" Digg. Among the comments, "Captain America isn't black. Why don't we just cast Jackie Chan as (S)uperman...." and "Captain Africa."

Makes you wonder.

...how to keep from goin' under.

People are idiots, mostly. I honestly believe at least 50% of voters would actually CONTINUE the tradition of having old, white guys as Pres. instead of someone like Obama. Frightening, in the 21st century.
