Media-Whore D'Oevres

"The premiere of (Rachel) Maddow's show finished in 2nd place in cable news at 9pmET, beating CNN's Larry King Live in both Total Viewers and the A25-54 demo (behind FNC's Hannity & Colmes)." (TVNewser)

"On Sept. 10 at 5:30 p.m., The Times will round up the newsroom on the third floor at its Eighth Avenue building to toast the accomplishments of the 32 reporters and editors who covered the Olympics—the majority of them from the sports department. There will be Champagne and egg rolls to reward the 'stunning' coverage The Times produced on the Web, and in the newspaper, wrote executive editor Bill Keller in a staff memo." (Observer)

"It's the week's most beloved mob scene, and who would want it any other way? After the last bowl of Dos Caminos guacamole was savored, editors en mass trucked over to the Park Avenue Armory, where an assault of paparazzi waited (in high anticipation) for an appearance of Posh and the accompanying spice. This season's surprise guest was Jessica Simpson, who braved the after-party only. Same with Anne Hathaway, who chatted up director Joel Shumacher as a private dinner attempted to thrive in the Greenwich Hotel's courtyard." (Fashionweekdaily)

"I loved Elise Overland's presentation. Elise puts the 'chic' in rocker chick and she even promised to make me a custom leather jacket so I can morph myself into a male Hope Atherton. So many hot names were at Elise's show like Courtney Cox Arquette, Rose Byrne, Laura Dern, man candy Jamie Burke and Diego Garcia, Genevieve Jones, Arden Wohl, Ferebee Bishop Taube, Nur Khan, Lydia Hearst, Annelise Peterson, Zani Gugelmann, Gavin Bond and Subversive designer Justin Guinta." "After starting the week with a model spill at BCBG, we've got a second big one, courtesy of the heels at Rodarte: 'While it’s always a little cringe-worthy when a girl takes a stumble on the runway, this time, as we watched sweet Abbey Lee’s ankles start to tremble and buckle, it particularly pulled on our heartstrings […] the girl behind her couldn’t help but stomp right by Lee as she sat sprawled on the runway.'" (NYMag)

"Proenza Schouler – over the past half decade America's best young designers – undertook a radical shift in direction Monday evening and, like any new birth, the delivery was the occasion of some considerable joy and great excitement, but, like any delivery, also the scene of an odd bloody mess." "Still sweltering and refusing to relinquish that coat, I subway down to Christie Street, to the Paper magazine dinner at the Box .. I love the Box, which looks like a down-at-the-heels turn-of-the-century bordello even though it was built from scratch only a year or so ago. At my table, a tiny girl in a spongy Balenciaga molded dress says she forgot to put on underpants and had to make an emergency stop at Baby Gap. I want to hear more, but there's a floor show by the Citizens Band, a group of louche lefties who present a Weimar-ish cabaret, beginning with a sarcastic paean to gasoline in ersatz-Brecht tones .. After the show, Citizens Band member Sarah Sophie Flicker, resplendent in a spangled, flesh-colored leotard and a glittery kitty-cat hat, exhorts me to join her in Florida to knock on doors and register voters. But Sarah, I moan, what would we wear?" (LynnYaeger)
