A Little Of The Old In And Out

(image via editorsweblog)

In: Politico. Next to Page Six and The Corsair's email, Politico.com is usually one of our top 3 destinations online. It is astonishing how many news sources regularly -- even hourly -- site Politico for breaking election coverage. It seems as though it has always been with us during this minute-by-minute first digital election. And although Politico.com has a weightiness in newsrooms comparable, somewhat, to the New York Times (at least for national election scoops), the site is only a few years old! Politico.com actually didn't even exist in the last Presidential election cycle. From Forbes:

"The upstart site for all things politics is the belle of the ball in Denver. But what happens after the election?

"Mike Allen writes an early morning e-mail that's fast become a must-read for Beltway news hounds.

"... Heady company for a newbie news organization devoted to the minutia of the Beltway's Great Game. With a Web site, print version and an active video operation, the company hardly lacks for ambition. While other newsrooms lay off reporters, Politico poaches from ailing shops like The Washington Post, The Philadelphia Inquirer and The Dallas Morning News.

"'Our goal in this thing is to create the brand,' says Chief Executive Frederick Ryan. "It's becoming the ESPN of politics."
