Lunch at Michael's: Katie Loves Schieffer!
"Gimme a 'K'"! (image via strangepolitics)
Wednesday is, as we know, big, disgusting-voodoo "Media Power Day" at Michael's. And yesterday was no different, dear reader. (The Corsair pours himself a Pouilly-Fum Paradoxe 2003 with hints of cedar and almond)The Head Cheerleader of The Chattering Class, Katie "Gimme a K" Couric was seen noshing with The Chattering Class' beloved --and soon to be retiring-- Civics teacher, Bob Schieffer! Says FishbowlNY, "... we hear it was a doozy of a day, with a big (orchestrated) press hit by Katie Couric and her new gang. They called in the big guns to cover her first lunch with Schieffer.." In addition , the adorable Laurel Touby notes that Calvin Klein, Braden Keil, Tommy Mottola and Dominick Dunne were in attendance, seeing and being seen. But the true pisser, the thing that makes us whistle long and slowly is, "Somehow, the Daily News' Lloyd Grove got wind of this event and brought a photographer to mark the moment."
We will not entertain the possibility that someone at CBS leaked like Fergie of the Black Eyed "Pees." (Averted Gaze) According to Lloyd Grove's Lowdown:
"It was a prom date of sorts - so Bob Schieffer brought Katie Couric a wrist corsage.
"She kept the orchids in full view on the white linen covering their corner table at Michael's, under a theatrical arrangement of cherry blossoms - where the lunchtime crowd could watch as the current and future anchors of 'The CBS Evening News' had a very public lovefest."
Media porn, this. More:
"'She's the best thing that ever happened to CBS News,' the 69-year-old Schieffer told me. The 49-year-old Couric grinned an aw-shucks grin and deflected his sweet nothing. 'After all,' she said, 'it is our first date.'"
Correct. Keep your "sweet nothing" in your pants:
"On hand to witness the close encounter were Barbara Walters, dining two tables away with Tipper Gore and Karenna Gore Schiff; Viacom honcho Tom Freston, hosting his News Corp. counterpart, Peter Chernin, in the center of the dining room; and even Donald Trump spawn Ivanka and Eric, munching toward the back.
"'I wanted to get together with her, and Michael's is one of my favorite places,' Schieffer said afterward. 'And I want everybody to know that I wanted Katie to come to CBS.'"
Everyone now knows, Bob. The full story here.
