Media-Whore D'Oevres

"Joe Andrew, who Bill Clinton appointed chairman of the Democratic National Committee in 1999, plans to hold a news conference Thursday in Indianapolis to announce his support of Obama and to urge other superdelegates to unite behind Obama in order to 'heal the rift in our party.' 'I have been inspired,' Andrew said in a lengthy letter to superdelegates and Indiana voters who will go to the polls next week in a primary that could largely seal the nomination for Obama or give Clinton vital momentum. 'Don't settle for the tried and true and simplistic slogans, but listen to your heart and dare to be inspired,' he wrote." (ABCNews)

"Samba and capirinas weren't the only offerings at Carlos Miele's store Wednesday night. The Brazilian designer and Vogue celebrated a collection of custom T-shirts benefiting the Rainforest Foundation designed by the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Camilla Belle, Michael Roberts, Caroline Trentini, and Diana Picasso ... Other guests included Vanessa and Victoria Traina, Gilles Bensimon, Sky Nellor, Lauren Remington Platt, Patricia Valesquez, Lindsay Price, and Amanda Ross, who revealed her upcoming travel plans. 'In couple of days, I'm taking an African journey to South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe,' she revealed." (Fashionweekdaily)

"Aden Hashi Ayro, long identified as one of Al Qaeda’s top operatives in East Africa and the leader of the Islamist comeback in Somalia, was killed Thursday morning by an American airstrike, according to American and Somali officials. Mr. Ayro was one of the most feared and notorious figures in Somalia, a short, wispy man believed to be in his 30s who had gone from lowly car washer to top terrorist suspect blamed for a string of atrocities, including ripping up an Italian graveyard, killing a BBC journalist and planning suicide attacks all across Somalia." "Anyway, I missed the evening at the Rainbow Room where they feted Betty because I was already committed to attending the birthday dinner of Amy Fine Collins, the author and New York fashion plate whose image has graced these and many other pages of New York life for several years... Last night’s dinner was given by her friend Francie Whittenberg. Francie hails originally from Amarillo, Texas where her daddy was very big in oil or cattle or maybe both, and where she had a husband who was once mayor of the town ... There were about sixty guests last night upstairs at La Grenouille. As it would be with Amy, it was an eclectic group of the rich, the chic, the shameless, the work-a-bees, the doers, the movers and the shakers." (NYSocialDiary)

"Apparently the recently retired Valentino isn't ready to put down his sketch pad just yet. 'I'm thinking about making dance costumes,' announced the designer at the New York City Ballet's Wednesday-night gala ... After the last of many encores, social types like Fe Fendi, Nina Griscom, Frédéric Fekkai and Shirin von Wulffen, Alexandra Lebenthal, and Peggy Siegal filed out of the theater and into Lincoln Center's cavernous Promenade for a grand banquet that was as smoothy choregraphed as the performance itself. The only brief hiccup occurred when Lauren Bacall learned of her seat assignment. 'I'm at table 108,' she said. 'Where is that? The boondocks?'" (Style)

"Last night, I had the pleasure of attending a party for The Chelsea (the new non-gaming boutique hotel opening this summer in Atlantic City that's slated to make AC un-cheesy) at Beatrice Inn ... I managed to have a glass of wine and stand three feet from OC/Gossip Girl svengali Josh Schwartz who was chatting it up with Jay McInerney. I overheard McInerney, Mr. Preppy McPrep-A-Zoid, talking to Schwartz about the private school boys of Gossip Girl and he said, "In my day, our ties were skinnier." (Papermag)
