Fashion Week Wrap-Up, Day 4

IMG model Reid blogs for Fashionweekdaily:

"Friday was a busy day. I started the day with a callback to see Proenza Schouler, then rushed around to six other castings and a fitting. At 3:00 I had to be at Gotham Hall for my first Fashion Week show, Rag & Bone. The hair and makeup were both really cool with a sort of dirty, yet still pretty look, and the clothes were definitely things that people could wear every day. "

From LookOnline:

"What was up with the Alice Roi show? First, getting inside the venue at Bryant Park was like getting into Fort Knox. We were made to wait in groups to pass through at least three different security check points at which point we had to wait and then we were allowed to the next level. Once inside, the show started almost 40 minutes late. At least reading the show program provided some entertainment (amusing and quirky descriptions such as ‘night sweats’ t shirt, ‘concomitant’ black and cream knit dress, ‘broken thoughts’ calico sweater with black wool ‘infirmary’ blanket skirt, etc.).

"And it’s hard to be grumpy while listening to the cool music of Steely Dan which played in the background. But while there were some sweet little dresses (notably a black paneled peter pan collar dress with an a line shape), a perfectly nice black ‘Madeline’ lace and wool short toggle coat paired with mohair leggings, a fuzzy camel shrunken blazer worn with gray sport inspired pants, and some fringe trim separates, the collection was not as cohesive or as well conceived as last season’s.

"...In the meanwhile…we all know that the fashion off the runway could be as interesting (or more so) than the clothes being presented on the runway. What are people wearing to the shows? ... the big accessory seems to be the hat, whether in fur or done in a patterned knit. Knitted fur caps with earflaps have been seen on both men and women and considering the cold temperatures on the horizon, undoubtedly, warm and toasty headgear will be de rigueur if one wants to get through the week."

"...Diane Von Furstenberg’s shows are getting more crowded each season and becoming more of a must see ever since she was nominated as President of the CFDA. Her energetic and upbeat Latin themed fall collection, “La Movida!” (“Look ahead…and don’t turn back…” is how Diane sees it) was testament to the many ways one can design-and wear-a dress. While she proposed some skirts and blouses or skirts and jackets, the majority of the 44 pieces were dresses, most of them short. She showed shift dresses, little black dresses, boldly patterned dresses, printed dresses, cocktail dresses, dresses and cardigans, dresses and coats, flapper dresses, flamenco dance dresses."

Also on DvF, From Fashionista:

"Diane Von Furstenberg's Fall collection was an everygirl palette of pencil-pointed looks: the velvet minidress for the trendy club publicist; the mosaic painted coat for an advertising VP; the hot pink prints for the girls who own hair salons.

"The clothes were lovely and the audience boldface - Anna, Graydon, Candace Bushnell. But the best part of the Diane Von Furstenberg show wasn't when Carmen Electra crashed into Fabiola Beracasa at the door, when Chanel Iman made M.A.C's John Demsey sit up a little straighter in his seat, or when a young British model asked her friend, 'Who is that man? Anna Wintour's bodyguard?' and she meant Andre Leon Talley.

"Zac Posen's fashion show and Thursday night after party promise to be an US Weekly field day: Sean Combs, Rachel Bilson, Rhianna, and Ellen Barkin are all confirmed - as are Hilary Duff and Nicole Richie."

And, of course, those awesome Fug Girls in NYMag:

"In retrospect, maybe it wasn't the best idea for the Jill Stuart team to hold a fashion show in the frigid marble entryway of the New York Public Library on the coldest day of the year. While those of us who actually showed up shivered through a succession of cute coats, swingy tunics, and the THIRD set of underpants worn as outer pants in the last three days (So is this a trend? Because … don't. Just don't)

"... Continuing the trend of fall 2007 as the year the celebrities stayed home, the only boldfaced names who did show up were from the elite group called People Who Used to Be in Groups That Were More Successful Than They Have Been as Solo Artists: former Destiny's Child member Kelly Rowland, who's hitting all the shows this week, and former *NSYNC pretty boy J.C. Chasez, who looks much better now that he's lost that mullet he was sporting back when he was dating Tara Reid."

Ouch! How fantastic is Lydia Hearst? We love. From http://www.socialiterank.com/:

"Lydia is a true Darfur champion. She talks about it everywhere she goes. Every backstage interview, every party, every dinner, every moment and every second. If you don’t donate money, she’ll probably bite you. So donate!"

Fabiola Beracasa, less socially conscious than Lydia Hearst:

"Noon I ran downtown to the Yigal show. I wore the cute white dress and jacket that we picked out on Thursday, and it was soooo cold! Why would I rather look good than be warm? I got to the show and sat next to Meredith Melling Burke from Vogue and Bergdorf's Roopal Patel, who both have back-to-back shows because of their jobs. I don't envy them. I mean I love fashion, but it's really exhausting to run around like that!!!"

Who are we kidding about "socially conscious (Averted Gaze)"? How about just plain lacking in conciousness.
