Obama Equals Ratings

(image via time)

President-elect Ka-CHING?! This blog post will probably get more page views than anything The Corsair writes today, because -- Obama equals ratings, silly. Yes he can. Whether the venue is the embattled New York Times ($24, at present, on eBay), 60 Minutes (best ratings in 9 years) or even People magazine, a Time commemorative edition ($15.95 in a frame), or cheesy-ass NBC DVD's, Obama delivers. From TVNewser:

"'10 Most Fascinating People of 2008,' in which Barack Obama was #1, won its timeslot last night on ABC. The show averaged a 4.2 rating giving ABC its best numbers in months in the hour and giving the network a win for the night in the A18-49 demo."

Let's face it, Obama -- even more than the Clintons -- is the point at which "celebrity" and "politics" meet. We have had inklings, with Brangelina's UN-sponsored trips, HBO's short-lived "K-Street," Camelot, Reagan and Sinatra, and the like. But this is the real deal. The Established media, feeling the pinch of the ad recession, would be foolish not to raise some monies on the back of this phenomenon. We just wonder at when the whole idolatrous tone becomes crass, if it has not become so already.

The NBCUniversal Store DVD really rankles ...
