Cuts At NBC; Donny Deutsch On Hiatus

It's a bloodbath in medialand this week as companies are firing workers right before the holidays. From DeadlineHollywoodDaily:

"Another hour, another source telling me about layoffs and cutbacks. I've already told you about Viacom's and CBS Inc's. And at Disney/ABC, don't dare include alcohol in your expense account meal. Now hundreds of layoffs are planned at NBC Universal. In the meantime, NBC has issued new draconian network and studio budget parameters, a second wave of cost-cutting following up on Jeff Zucker's promise a month ago to tighten belts across the board."

One of NBC's cost-cutting measures is The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch, which is being put on hiatus (not cut) and, says TVNewser, "An insider with knowledge of the situation tells TVNewser the idea of a 'success show' is not right in this economic climate." Ratings for 2008 are down to date against 2007. In total viewers Deutsch scratches 47% of the time. According to Same Day Cable News Daily Ratings for December 1, 2008, Big Idea w/Donny Deutsch got 145,000 viewers: 58,000 of which were in the 25-54 demo, and an anemic 73,000 in the 35-64 demo.
