Media-Whore D'Oeuvres

"Ahmad Muhammad Harun, Sudan's minister of state for humanitarian affairs, is not only at large for recruiting, funding and arming the Sudanese janjaweed, he is, apparently, doing so in "a smart charcoal suit and open-necked shirt" from his new offices in Khartoum. Nice work if you can get it! In an interview with The Guardian, Harun wags his well-manicured finger at the International Criminal Court, which has issued against him a warrant of arrest for crimes against humanity. 'My conscience is clear. I have no regrets,' Harun told The Guardian. 'What I have done was legal, it was my responsibility, it was my duty. I am content. I am at peace with myself.'" "Wrestling may be an unlikely interest for New York's chicest, but that didn't stop the celebs from flocking to the Cinema Society and Entertainment Weekly-hosted screening of Darren Aronofsky's The Wrestler. The showing, held at the Tribeca Grand Hotel, brought out Wrestler stars Mickey Rourke (who's already generating Oscar buzz for his role) and Marisa Tomei, as well as fans like Naomi Campbell, Jeremy Piven, Debbie Harry, Stefano Tonchi, Matt Dillon, Brooke Shields .. Post-film, the party moved to the SoHo Grand Hotel, where John Leguizamo, Amy Sacco, Alison Sarofim, Jospeh Gordon-Levitt, Zac Posen, and more mingled with the film's cast and crew. Rachel Roy chatted with perpetual trucker-hat sporting Judah Friedlander (who played a wrestling promoter in the movie), while Heather Graham settled herself on the floor to eat her salad and Chris Noth, wasting no time, went straight to the bar for a Grey Goose on the rocks." "THE emergence of teachers union boss Randi Weingarten as a self-proclaimed contender for Hillary Clinton's Senate seat ratchets up the battle between the Clinton and Kennedy clans over the post. Longtime Clinton ally Weingarten's chances of being chosen for the job by Gov. Paterson are remote at best - but if it happened, she'd be expected to 'keep the seat warm for Hillary' in case her secretary of state role sours and she tries to reclaim the Senate seat. Bill Clinton had pondered going for the seat himself, but was said to be reluctant to relinquish the multimillion paydays he rakes in for appearing onstage with foreign businessmen. But he wants to hold the Senate seat 'in the family' for Hillary's second act or even for Chelsea. Meanwhile, Bill is said to be enraged about the campaign to give the 'Clinton seat' to Caroline Kennedy, whom the Clintonistas consider a traitor for her early backing of Barack Obama." (PageSix)

"Insiders tell TVNewser Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich was booked to appear on MSNBC this afternoon to discuss the Chicago factory sit-in. MSNBC reached out to his press person last night and scheduled an appearance during Norah O'Donnell's 3pmET hour. But some time around 7amET those plans changed. His MSNBC booking was canceled by his booking by the Feds." (TVNewser)

"JOAN Rivers was a victim of the media the other day at Doubles, the downstairs club at the Sherry-Netherland. She arrived at a luncheon hosted by Mayor Bloomberg's gal pal Diana Taylor and Cristina Ferrare in honor of Katie Couric and was promptly knocked over by a photographer, who apologized profusely and kissed her hand." "Yesterday, a cool, calm and collected Robin Thicke performed two gorgeous songs from his new album Something Else live in a studio atop Times Square to launch Diet Coke's new 'Style Series.' In between songs, he bantered back and forth with Rachel Zalis, the West Coast editor of Glamour, who mentioned the nude photo of his wife Paula Patten which appears on his album cover. To this, Robin responded, 'Everyday I wake up and thank God for my wife and my life!'" (Papermag)
