Watching Usher trying and failing to match Stevie Wonder's magic at the pre-inauguration concert on HBO the question rose to The Corsair's lips: "what is Usher doing there?" Immediately afterwards we wondered if Shjakira would be able to contain her hips at so staid an affair (she did), but that's another kettle of fish altogether.
Usher seemed wholly out of place in a celebration of Barack Obama. A smiling waterhead, a chuckling dancerboy, at the convention of serious men and women. Tales of Usher's appalling behavior at the Inauguration are coming out proving that The Corsair's initial reactions are almost always correct. From PageSix:
"Earlier that day, while the entire city seemed to be packed into the National Mall, Usher and his wife, Tameka Foster, were at Barneys in Georgetown. Our source said, 'The [shopping] mall was practically empty, and a young girl went up and asked Usher for a photo. His bodyguard very meanly refused, and Tameka laughed in the girl's face. After they left, the little girl was crying.' His rep said: 'Usher took as many photos as possible while in DC. He was there to witness a great moment in history. It's absurd that people would try to ruin it.'"
And from NyMag: "Dozens of African-American 12-year-olds screaming out Usher's name as he walked past, and Usher ignoring them while walking to his not-amazing seat, head down. 'So you're too good for us? We're your people!' someone shouted."
Nice.
