Stephanopoulos: People Close To Caroline Kennedy Thought This Was Going Her Way
ABC News' George Stephanopoulos said today on the Morning Joe radio program that he had reports that "people close to (Caroline Kennedy)" thought that the announcement for a replacement for Hillary Clinton's Senate seat was going to go her way and that it was immanent. When Joe Scarborough asked why he think Kennedy abruptly pulled our, he offered, "Some people have suggested that maybe it was her Uncle Teddy's collapse at the inauguration just the day before." The New York Post, which broke the story of Caroline Kennedy's pulling out of the race, says that the Camelot scion was not going to be picked by Governor Patterson.
Things, arguably, had been going downhill since Kevin Sheekey, Bloomberg's hugely aggressive Deputy, left the Kennedy campaign.
This blog was against the Kennedy nomination on the grounds that as decent a human being as Caroline Kennedy is, one does not start a political career -- in this moment of national emergency besides -- at the top. Perhaps Kennedy would accept as position as Ambassador to the Court of St. James, or the Apostolic See, or even Ireland? All three are magnificent places to apprentice in the fine art of politics on the international side.
