Journopalooza!

(Suspicious Package via Christina)

We emailed Christina Davidson of the National Press Club about "Journopalooza," a benefit. On Friday at the National Press Club (529 14th St. NW, 13th Floor Washington, DC 20045), "Four of D.C.'s best bands -- composed of journalists from the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, McClatchy Newspapers, the Washington Independent, Bloomberg News, among others -- will try to claim for themselves the title of Best Reporter-Based Washington Rock Group."

The Corsair: JOURNOPALOOZA's proceeds will benefit some worthy causes -- The Committee to Protect Journalists and the National Press Club's efforts to bring in the next generation -- who has the inside track to become Best Reporter-Based Washington Rock Group?

Christina Davidson: It's difficult to say who could be chosen as the best because they're all so different. Anchorage and The Surge write all their own music, so that could give them an edge. However, some people may abhor the hard rock of The Surge or the alt sounds of Anchorage, but love the funk and classic rock of Suspicious Package or the R&B of Nobody's Business.

The Corsair: I was looking at the web page (and of the bands), and someone is taking this rocking quite seriously. "Our profession," you write, "is in financial trouble. Trouble that can only be fixed by rock n' roll." Oh snap; what gives?

Christina: To be a successful journalist requires a certain personality and mindset driven by dogged perseverance, insatiable curiosity for new knowledge and experience, a dedication to perfecting their craft, and extraordinary self-discipline. Whether it is media or rock-and-roll, these people do nothing half-assed.

The Corsair: How does Best Reporter-Based Washington Rock Group compare to a Pulitzer?

Christina: ...Nothing can really compare to a Pulitzer.
