Randi Rhodes Quits Air America
Talk to the hand, Mark Green! (image via villageradio)
Granted, Randi Rhodes' remarks were crass and crude. That, and the fact that Air America President Mark Green is a die-hard Clintonist probably sealed her fate. Rhodes resigned rather than apologize for her remarks on a San Francisco stage. Whether or not that makes Rhodes employable again in prestigious New York -- market 1 to terrestrial radio -- remains to be seen. From The HuffingtonPost:
"The Huffington Post has learned that Randi Rhodes quit Air America after being asked by the network to apologize for her inflammatory remarks against Hillary Clinton and Geraldine Ferraro.
A source at Air America, who asked to remain anonymous, said, 'Many people screw up and then apologize and move on. Like Imus. Like David Shuster. Like Jay Rockefeller on McCain. Like Obama on Rezko. Like Hillary on Bosnia. Randi Rhodes refused to apologize for her obscene comments and has chosen instead to terminate her relationship with Air America."
"The source also said that there is no love lost between Rhodes and her colleagues at the network. 'No one is upset. She made the move but there's relief and joy.'"
A big day in radio today, adding Artie Lang's resignation from the Stern Show. What is going on? Is Mercury -- which "rules" communication (Exaggerated cough suggesting feigned detachment), horoscopically -- in retrograde or something?

Rhodes should not be asked to apologize, and I completely understand her decision to resign. I'll keep looking for her show and support her wherever she ends up.
