Evan Bayh For Veep?

(image via msnbc)

There is much talk nowadays in cigar-smoke filled rooms on the beltway of putting Indiana Senator Evan Bayh on the Democrat ticket, however that turns out. Bayh would definitely be a Gore-ish veep choice, but the Republicans have Indiana on deep lockdown. It remains to be seen whether the golden Bayh name in the Hoosier state could make up the gap of the hundreds of thousands who vote Republican over Democrat in Indiana Presidential elections. Plus, watching Bayh on the stump is like observing the long, slow process of photosynthesis. Still, Bayh manages to get elected statewide in a red state. often. That counts for something. And stealing Indiana from the red column would be the cheery on top of the cake. Democrats electoral math ought to be such that the Vice Presidential nominee should be able to turn a red state blue, else we fall into the Gore-Kerry stalemate where the Dems win the Northeast and California and some Midwestern states, ceding the South, Ohio, the Southwest and the West -- and the Presidency -- to the Republicans.

The Dems have a better chance in Colorado and New Mexico. If I were Obama, I'd go with Bill Richardson.
