RoveMania

Frankly, The Corsair always thought that the leaker was Scooter Libby. I mean, really: Could you trust a grown man that calls himself "Scooter"? It's just unseemly.

You know The Corsair has no love lost for The Architect and his evil genius at magnifying the cultural influence of Evangelicals. (And, a propos of nothing, if Rove were indeed an architect, he would probably be an Aalto) But the Democratic leadership -- and the often shrill voices at Air America -- are operating under the premise of guilty until proven innocent.

Now, if indeed the leaker is Karl Rove and not Scooter Libby, then Rove should be kicked out of government and then let the courts have at him. Then, the question could be asked: How did he know? Who told him? Did he do it on his own?

The White House has been mum. The foot soldiers have their talking points. Although it has been said that Rove might escape the pokey (but not his job if guilty) by using, ironically, a Clintonesque strategy (so far Matt Cooper has testified that Rove never actually used a name) a la, "I didn't ACTUALLY give Plame's name out, nya-nya-nya."

If, however, Robert Novak's source also turns out to be Rove (has Novak already cooperated? This story is moving too fast to get all but the jist of the broad brushstrokes), then things get downright saucy and Congressional hearings will be called, McClellan's hair will turn silver overnight, and the question of just who-told-Rove-what gets asked. Intensely. By Senate Committee chairmen.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves. It is still innocent until proven guilty.

Besides, lest we forget: Rove is an expert student of Napoleon. If he is found to be the leaker -- as all the lefty editorial pages tell us -- he will no doubt use the lessons of Elba to his advantage. But if one lesson can be learned from Rovemania, it is that being too polarizing a figure, as Karl Rove definitely is, makes you a target for humiliation. It is Wise to govern and politic (and blog, quite frankly) from the even-handed center, where cooler heads prevail.

I have a C-note says he'll wiggle out of this on semantics a la: "It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is,' is"

Wouldn't that be insane, considering they scrubbed down the White House because of Clinton's lack of a moral center? I think you're right LX. Slyboots,my darling, you know, of course, that this post was entirely for you.
