At What Point Will Dave Letterman Concede Defeat?

Granted, if you go in for late night television, and I don't, David Letterman is the smarter, edgier comedian than Jay Leno. That having been said, Jay Leno is really kicking David Letterman's ass. No one denies it: the numbers speak for themselves. Middle America likes the friendly and untaxing and accessible Leno over the conflicted and angsty Dave. So, now that the battle is pretty much decided and costing CBS quite a bit of change to remain at number two, at what point does the Tiffany Network either: a) concede defeat and go home and try another attack, or, b) accept a mildly profitable (compared to Leno) 2nd place, be the alpha male, be Leno's New York bitch in the hopes that Dave will continue to hold on to young men -- a desireable demographic -- while Leno leads in every other demo, or c) kick things up a notch and really compete with Leno. If c) is the option, my Tivo is at the ready.
