Media-Whore D'Oevres

"Have you seen the 'Real Housewives'? ...As far as the Society angle goes, these girls are not Society. An expensive apartment, a limo and a house in the Hamptons does not society make. Those accoutrement won’t hurt if that’s what you’re looking for; but they also won’t help. These girls are all spawns of the subPrime world that is now imploding around us. They are very much women of their time, of their moment and for that reason, this funny little gawker of a show is an authentic social document of these days in New York and in America. But, do you think Marie Antoinette was better informed?" (NYSocialDiary)

"Just as the day of arranged marriages is over, so is the time of choosing a vice president to win a state or a constituency. The selection is akin to choosing a spouse: You have to get along and complement each other. The reception after you pledge your troth has to be filled with energy and excitement. It helps if the families get along. And the person has to be able to take over in case of tragedy. Think of the line in 'Jerry Maguire' when Tom Cruise says to Renee Zellweger, 'You complete me.' In that sense, Senator Joe Biden is the ticket, filling in his partner's weak spots and prepared to be president. He doesn't bring a region, a voting bloc or special interest. He brings warmth, and years. A practicing Catholic originally from Scranton, Pennsylvania, whose father cleaned boilers and sold used cars, and far from rich (he ranks 99th in wealth among 100 senators), Biden, a Delaware senator, brings a working-class scrappiness missing in Barack Obama." "Rachel Leigh Cook said she was a 'huge' fan of both Obama and Biden, and that Obama's positions on healthcare, poverty, civil rights, and especially education really inspired her ... Kerry Washington said: 'I believe that it is my responsibility as an American citizen to participate in this democracy' ... Dana Delaney, of Desperate Housewives, says that the show's assistant director, who's also a Democrat, got her the week off from the show so she could attend the convention .. Matthew Modine noted Obama's shift to the middle of the political spectrum, and said that he's alienating liberal voters. This was after he told me that in politics and showbiz, somebody's always having sex with someone else. Intrigued I asked him if he could be more specific, to which he quipped: "I've got vibrating underwear on right now. I'm having sex with myself!'" (Glamour)

"Ramping up their effort to drive a wedge between Hillary Clinton’s supporters and Barack Obama, the McCain campaign is to broadcast a new ad starting Monday featuring the Wisconsin Democrat who lost her slot as a convention delegate after saying she’d cast her ballot for McCain instead of Obama here. The commercial, which will air in this market as the Democratic convention gets underway, is aimed squarely at the hearts of Clinton loyalists .." (Politico)

"In typical Donald Trump fashion, there was no limit to the grandeur at Saturday night's star-studded gala in Bel Air celebrating the new Trump International Hotel and Tower in Dubai. Although the project won't be completed until summer 2011, plenty of notable guests including Hayden Panettiere, Ali Larter, Lucy Liu, Aaron Eckhart, Tyrese, Donald Trump Jr. and Vanessa Trump, Mark-Alan Harmon, George Blodwell, Davis Factor and Julia Clancey showed up to toast Trump and his most recent endeavor .. As attendees feasted on a lavish spread of seafood paella, lamb chops, lobster shooters and carmelized chocolate tarts, Christina Aguilera performed a sampling of hits including 'Lady Marmalade" and 'Beautiful' ..Inches away, Hilary Swank and Orlando Bloom took in the sights .." (Fashionweekdaily)

"Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) is planning to attend the opening session of the Democratic convention Monday. Kennedy, who was diagnosed with brain cancer in May, has already arrived in Denver. His spokeswoman said that he would be in the Pepsi Center to watch a tribute to him, but she added that he would not make an address. 'He’s truly humbled by the outpouring of support and wouldn't miss it for anything in the world,' Stephanie Cutter told the Associated Press." (TheHill)
