Johnny Depp, July 2009 Vanity Fair Coverboy

Vanity Fair contributing editor Douglas Brinkley gets a tour of Johnny Depp's private Caribbean island by way of interviewing the film star for the cover of the July 2009 edition. Sagitarrian Brinkley, curiously, interviewed another famous sun-sign Gemini -- Bob Dylan -- for Rolling Stone's cover recently. Some takeaways from the Depp interview:

-- Depp has a 156-foot, steam-powered boat called Vajoliroja, "an amalgam of the names of his partner (singer/actress Vanessa Paradis), himself, and their children, Lily Rose and Jack."

-- The former 21 Jump Street star named one of the beaches on his private Caribbean island Gonzo, after his friend, the late Hunter "Gonzo" Thompson. "others," according to the article, "are named Paradis, Lily Rose, Jack, and Brando, after his partner, kids, and other great mentor)."

-- Depp is bullish on Tom Cruise taking death-defying career risks in Tropic thunder. “That’s the best I’ve ever seen Cruise,” said Depp.
