The Skye Nicholas Mortelle Show At Ion Studios
On Friday the 13th of February during Fashion Week, The Corsair attended the Skye Nicholas Mortelle show at Ion Studio. Skye comes off as quite intense, of slim build, intense concentration and a low conversational voice that makes the listener feel as if he's being let in on a big secret. Sonya Reynolds at United Creators, got us some brief face-time with the artist.
Noting that his work had an interesting patina for chalk and charcoal he corrected this blogger. "It's crayon, but many people make that mistake." Which would explain the unlikely sheen on the subjects -- dead models. Or, to be more precise, model friends of Skye's playing dead for his Noir series. "A collector in Singapore wanted to know how I got the models and I had to explain that they were friends," he says, with that characteristic intensity and a bit of humor.
Before leaving into the swirl of Fashion Week events, tanked up on Ciroc vodka, I asked Sonya of the United Creators team if the rumor that Skye designed t-shirts for Kate Moss. Sonya smiled and said, "he has a strong relationship with the fashion industry."
The show is in exclusive viewing at Ion Studios in Soho, 41 Wooster Street.
