Chris Matthews Versus Ari Fleischer

The Bushies, after a brief wait-and-see attitude, are firing back, protecting their legacy. Everywhere that legacy appears to be in decline. President Obama is winding down the war in Iraq, he still blames the economy on his predecessor (though for how long remains unclear), and this week he lifted President Bush's federal ban on stem cell research. It is enough to make a Bushie clear some brush. And he did on last night's "Hardball." From TVNewser:

"Pres. Bush's first press secretary Ari Fleischer was on Hardball last night. He was booked to talk about the premise that members of the Bush inner circle are doing all they can to prop up his legacy.

"The 16 minute discussion started getting contentious four minutes in, when Matthews said 'we suffered the worst domestic calamity in history on your watch.'

"Fleischer responded, 'Chris how dare you. If we get attacked again are you going to say we got attacked on Barack Obama's watch?'

"'What you just did is shameful,' Fleischer added."

Spoken and spun like a former Press Secretary and true blue Bushie loyalist.
