Serena Williams: Jehovah's Witness

From Aspire Magazine June/July 2004:

"Serena was brought up, and still actively pravtices as a Jehovah's Witness. She is even known to go door to door every so often.

"'It is something that all Witnesses participate in,' she explains. However, the sight of Serena turning up at the front door is understandably a shock for most people.

"'I haven't dont it for a while because I travel so much. But when I do, people usually take the literature because they know who I am -- which is a good thing. There is a big misconception about Witnesses, so hopefully I'm doing my bit to change that.'"

Like all good Witnesses Serena has to get her "time" in, suggested 10 hours a month. The same went for Michael Jackson, and even Prince now. More at: http://www.freeminds.org/african/african.htm

I was pretty stunned when I heard this also. Not that Serena has ever been anything other than a good person, just that Brett Ratner is a pretty, uhm, "extreme" guy -- beyond Red Dragon. He lives a very LA-lifestyle, and I was wondering what the Elders in the church would say about their relationship, which is getting pretty serious.

Goodness, you're a sight for sore eyes. Thank you for that.

To have dreams other than to go door-to-door, go to meetings, and marry so that she can make babies who will be more JW's. That's a very worldly outlook. Someone needs to pull her back to the ground and put their thumb on her!

First of all Jehovah's Witnesses don't force you to do anything. Second, you go door to door because you want to, that's what you believe in, just like you'd go to bat for anything else you feel strongly about. Third, our life is not about rushing to make babies to "increase ranks". You have to be mature enough to handle marriage and even then think real hard before starting a family. And lastly, yes we do have careers and education. I'm in the middle of pursuing my BA in Political Sci right now.
Straight A's this semester thank you very much :)

alot of you definitely show your ignorance on the topic of jehovahs witnesses. Like it says above..witnesses are not forced by any means to go door to door. They are not forced to not vote or that kinda thing. They are taught from the bible and then they reason on what points it gives them and advice it gives them. And as far as the proof of the apostate and disfellowshipping views link that was posted...its a website created by someone who is not a witness and is posting thier views on it. There is ONE actual jehovahs witness website that answers questions so most of the other ones out there are as ignorant as 90% of the people that are talking about what they think they know about the religion which in turn spreads more false rumors about witnesses.
