Media-Whore D'Oeuvres

"As is often the case in Obamaland, very few people have first-hand information about which way Barack Obama and his transition team are going with this, though several Democratic officials have recently confirmed to me the early talk that the position is being decided between former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers and New York FED president Timothy Geithner. John Corzine, the New Jersey Governor and former Goldman Sachs chief, was mentioned often as a wild card, but his chances seemed to have dimmed." (Observer)

"Diane von Furstenberg may have spent the beginning of her evening speaking at FIT, but that didn't stop her from stopping by her Meatpacking District store to celebrate author Camilla Morton's new book, A Year in High Heels: A Girl's Guide to Everything from Jane Austen to the A-List. While guests picked up their copies--that the gorgeous blonde Morton happily signed--DvF came in and went straight for the snacks: hummus, cheese, and champers, bien sûr! Though the rain poured down outside, the party inside was vibrant; Morton worked the room, mingling with guests Gisele Bündchen (who arrived sans Tom Brady), Thakoon Panichgul, Kate Betts, and Elise Øverland." "Last night was a roller-coaster ride of an evening. It started out ominously when I was dismissed with a 'you are not on the list' by some of the rudest and snottiest clipboard girls I have ever encountered. I was asked first to wait in the rain and then by security to leave the area. Oh well -- that was the down. Moving on up, the Guggenheim was the setting for the Hugo Boss Prize 2008 gala, an established forum for recognizing achievement in contemporary art. Fresh from her recent PAPER cover, the exquisite Julianne Moore dodged the raindrops on and off the red carpet with husband Bart Freundlich. All of a sudden there was a secretive rumbling and scrambling, when Gloria von Thurn und Taxis, the madcap icon of the '80s was seen posing spread-eagle-style up against the signage on the carpet." "Brian Williams joined Suze Orman, Seth Meyers, Elizabeth Edwards and others on a panel to discuss who would be Time Magazine's Person of the Year (hmm, I wonder)." (TVNewser; video of the panel here)
