Pat Buchanan On AIG: "You Don't Give A Retention Bonus To The Unibomber"

Overheated rhetoric and caustic furor are the zeitgeist. Borborygmus is the outrage and AIG is, perhaps justly, in the crossfire. So it came as no surprise as Pat Buchanan, the resident goddam paleoconservative freakshow on the McLaughlin Group ("the best minds ..") went overboard about the AIG rescue plan, the Democrat Congress, the President and, for good measure, the Treasury Secretary (Exaggerated cough suggesting feigned detachment).

Buchanan had a point re: AIG. Unfortunately, Buchanan couches his communication in precisely the sort of whiote hot -- no pun intended -- language that fans the fires of a populist conflagration turning the political situation torrid.

The sad thing is that this "intellectual" godfather of The Buchanan Brigades would probably take that last sentence of his influence as a compliment.

"You don't give retention bonuses to the Unibomber," said Buchanan, carrying Eleanor Clift's measured metaphor way beyond the margins of propriety. Later, he added, "the Congress is behaving like demagogues."

Isn't that the pot calling the kettle .. well, in Buchanan's case a creamy, non-Semitic white?

Perhaps another dousing with "Cool Ranch" dressing will still the incendiary nature of Pat's overwrought gassiness?
