Media-Whore D'Oeuvres

"Three companies have submitted bids to buy Miramax, the arthouse division of the Walt Disney Company, according to a knowledgeable individual. Two of the bidders were known – The Weinstein Company and Platinum Equity – but a mystery third bidder entered the process seriously only last week and bid this week at the final April 5 deadline. WaxWord previously reported the entry of the third bidder (Miramax Mystery: Bidder No. 3 Enters the Fray), a strategic player whose business is related to that of Miramax. But Time-Warner, News Corp and Lionsgate – all of whom might be logical partners – are not among those bidding, WaxWord has confirmed. Meanwhile, other details among the bidders emerged. The Weinstein Company is being backed by Los Angeles billionaire Ron Burkle, according to two individuals with knowledge of the deal. In addition to Burkle, a financial institution is supporting the efforts of the Weinstein brothers, who originally founded the studio and named it after their parents Miriam and Max, to regain control of the property." "A Louisiana-born porn star says that if she goes through with a run for the U.S. Senate, she'll run as a Republican. In a Tuesday news release making light of a recent Republican spending controversy, Stormy Daniels notes that the Republican National Committee picked up a nearly $2,000 tab at a sex-themed California nightclub. Daniels' statement says she was a lifelong Democrat, but that the Republicans best espouse her views about sex and money. Daniels, whose political spokesman has a history of working for Democrats, is to announce April 15 whether she will run against Republican Sen. David Vitter." (WXVT)

"Howard (Stern) said he was going to get together with Jesse (Ventura) and his wife but he's not going to be around this weekend. He said that he does like Jesse on the show but he's not sure if they could hang. Howard said Jesse was going to come out to his house but maybe they should try a restaurant first. Howard said he and Ben Stiller were going to get together on Monday night. It was going to be just the two of them. Howard said Beth was out at a movie premiere with a friend. He said that Ben got busy and asked to go later at night so he wasn't able to go. He said he wanted to go early but Ben wised up and didn't want to go that early. He said he's trying to get Ben and Jesse together instead. Howard said he's trying to have a couple of friends in show business." (Marksfriggin)
