I remember after graduating from college I sent Roger a snail mail saying, in essence, what would he advise a young writer just starting out. He wrote back -- and I am paraphrasing here -- this may sound cynical, but the best advice I can give you is always attach your name to your byline and never shorten it. It is distinctive and memorable. Good, practical advice, from a good, practical man. Rest in peace.
