Media-Whore D'Oevres

"Industry insiders crowded onto the third floor of Barneys New York in Beverly Hills Tuesday night to celebrate organic clothing line Loomstate. Hosted by Julie Gilhart, Rogan Gregory, Scott Hahn, Larry Aidem, and Howard Socol, the fete had a decidedly cool vibe (compliments of DJ Paul Sevigny, who spun a unique blend of rock, indie and hip hop)... The evening ended with a special performance by Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward of She & Him, with attendees swaying to sweet and soulful songs like 'You've Really Got a Hold on Me' and 'Sweet Darlin'.'' "When we first saw some screen shots from Jude Law's upcoming My Blueberry Nights, we couldn't help noticing the actor's abundance of messy highlighted hair atop his winky visage. Especially when compared to his respectable, but ever-so-slightly receding hairline in Alfie. And after being photographed in London recently sporting the beginnings of a George Costanza 'do, our suspicions that his character's curls in MBN were extensions for boys:
'[Jude] is reported to be so worried about his receding hairline that he has consulted a Harley Street expert, in a bid to save his locks.'

"Last night at the Pierre, the Versailles-Giverny Foundation held its annual dinner. This year it was to celebrate the completion of the restoration of the trio of sculptures of the Grove of the Baths of Apollo at Versailles. The statues have occupied this spot since they were commissioned by Louis XIV in the 17th century. The head of Apollo is actually a portrait of the head of The Sun King. It took 1.5 million euros to restore and make replicates of the three figures ... Last night’s Guest of Honor was HRH Prince Charles-Philippe d’Orleans, Duc d’Anjou. The 35-year-old prince wore the uniform of the Grand Master of Military and Hospitaller Order of St. Lazarus of Jerusalem. The Order’s 'legitimacy' was under the protection of the House of Orleans since the 13th century ...Prince Charles began his 15-minute lecture by reading the 'requirements' and admitting to being a bit cowed by doing such in English and for fifteen minutes. As it turned out the prince rejected the “no-reading.” He talked about the business of having a royal title and how it is accepted (and/or ignored) in a world where the concept of royalty is more antique than ever." "Does being a powerful gay in showbiz still involve refusing to say you’re 'that way'? ... in September, Jodie Foster referred to her 'partner' in an interview, and she followed that up three months later by citing 'my beautiful Cydney, who sticks with me through all the rotten and the bliss' when receiving an award at the Women in Entertainment Power 100 event. Talk about women’s power! As glass closet followers well knew, Foster’s girlfriend, Cydney Bernard, had long lived under a cloak of anonymity, especially when the privacy-minded Foster tried to perpetuate her image as a busy single mom. Those days now seemed as officially over as Rosie O’Donnell’s crush on Tom Cruise." (Musto)

"Federal prosecutors again failed to win convictions for six Florida men on terror-related charges, as a deadlocked jury led a judge to declare a mistrial in the case Wednesday.

The men, part of a group dubbed the "Liberty City Seven," were charged with planning an attack on Chicago's Sears Tower following a 2006 FBI raid on a warehouse that served as their headquarters and "temple" in Liberty City, one of Miami's poorest neighborhoods. An earlier jury acquitted one man and deadlocked over counts against the other six in December. Critics accused the Bush administration of "see[ing] terrorism under every rock," and of essentially fabricating a major terror case against seven men using a paid informant. At the time of the raid, then-Attorney General Alberto Gonzales personally announced the details of the case against the men at a press conference. He said the men aimed to wage a 'full ground war against the United States' and vowed to 'kill all the devils we can.' The group, which called itself 'Seas of David,' had no firearms, no explosives and no links to a terrorist group when they were arrested. Its leader was reportedly known for roaming the group's neighborhood in a cape or bathrobe, toting a wooden cane." (ABC)
