HBO and Rooftop Films Fete The Neistat Brothers
Last night after attending the AIA guide launch party downtown (more on that later), I schlepped over to HBO and Rooftop Films' sneak preview of the first two episodes of The Neistat Brothers at Pier at Solar One on the East River. I arrived just as the Neistat Brothers -- pronounced “nigh-stat” -- were exiting their limo, right by the entrance line. My gemini luck, that. One of them -- Van? Casey? -- carrying, proudly, a half empty bottle of Jack Daniels as he spilled out of the limo. It's not TV, folks, it's HBO.
Interesting hors d'oevres -- mini grilled cheese, quail egg yolks on crackers, mini burgers -- made the rounds and the well-stocked open bar remained open except during the film. The short films were hilarious, bohemian in sensibility so I was in heaven. I knew these guys would be interesting because Paper's Kim Hastreiter, one of the people I know who have impeccable taste, raves about them. The consumer-grade shooting and editing added to the idie charm as did the scruffy but cute crowd. It was a beautiful night to be partying on the pier, watching the boats come in, and there was live music by Keepaway (projected, thoughtfully, onto the big screen so everyone could see), who rocked, and a very cool and boozy reception afterwards. HBO and Rooftop films did themselves proud.
The Neistat Brothers premieres Friday, June 4 (midnight-12:30 a.m. ET/PT).
