Gallery Hopping
Friday night I ventured to Les Rogers' solo show Last House at Leo Koenig on 23rd street. The influences of Bacon and Picasso, Rogers' artistic antecedents, can be detected within the fragmentary images ("large, mostly gestural abstract paintings with interwoven bits of realism") -- Observer). Those fleshy Baconian pinks (smoked?) pop from out of the dark depths of the gestural abstractions, particularly in "Adrift (2009; Oil on canvas)". The fourth solo show of the hott artist was clearly the gallery to be at on the frigid January evening. Spotted: novelist, Paula Froelich, sage pixie and former Page Sixxie.
