Elvis Mitchell to BET

BET has come a long way from the oft-lampooned destination for sundry snakeoil salesmen and shucking-and-jiving preachers (Remeber when Sunday's BET programming lineup was all shady Jesus Christers from "PO Boxes" down South?). We, of late, heart BET, which is finally reaching after its vast urban potential (Cheers to Viacom; gasface to Bob Johnson)

First, Toure narrated the brilliant 2005 recap, with VH1-ish talking heads analyzing the trends in African-American culture last year (Why isn't the gorgeous Lola Ogunnaike on tv more). Now, former Harvard professor and Old Gray Lady film critic Elvis. According to Medialifemag:

"Elvis Mitchell, the former film critic for the New York Times, has been tapped to host '�In Black,' a BET show that spotlights five African American artists. The show debuts on Feb. 9 at 9 p.m."
