Thanks for the article. The last part bringing in sexually transmitted diseases into the discussion of the collaborative aspects of hip-hop was unfortunate. Hip hop is a communal affair to the degree that feuds between rival rappers go back to the UTFO's "Roxanne, Roxanne" and it's responses, but much of the article strikes me as overly reductive. Couldn't the same be said of Rock and Roll from James Brown and Chuck Berry to the Stones to hard rock to metal? Isn't all American music collaborative in that sense?
