A Little of the Old In and Out (Abbreviated Edition for a Busy Day)

04.13..05ACrumbRCrumb_041205_08

Above: R. Crumb nestles in his wife's amused arms to escape being photographed.

In: Robert Crumb. I don't know why I find this image so arresting, touching, even a little beautiful, that in a world where everyone wants to be famous, someone is actually so shy that he turns down photographers. Hmm. Does that remind you of someone (only cuter)? From Fashionweekdaily:

"'Hes painfully shy. He even hid in the nook of his wifes shoulder when the photographers were taking his photo,' said one publicist at last nights party celebrating Crumbs collaboration with Stella McCartney on a line of limited-edition t-shirts. Diverting all questions from fans and media alike to his wife, Aline, the cartoonist opted instead to dance and clap along to his favorite Vince Giordano song. 'I guess some people just dont like to be in the spotlight,' said photographer Roxanne Lowitt."

The whole story here.

Out: Archaic nonsense. Although The Corsair is a deep admirer of antiquity, some laws ought to be put out to pasture. To wit: The rule-law-whatever that Monaco goes back to French dominion if Prince Albert cannot produce a male heir. Cindy Adams dishes on the solution:

"Powers-that- be and hope-to-be talk of His new Serene Highness Crown Prince Albert marrying, doing it in a cup and producing the requisite male heir before Al's closet-size principality slides back to France ."

Swell. Thanks for sharing, Cin.

In: Demi Moore. It appears R. Crumb's camera shyness is contageous. The 3AM Girls run this odd nonstory-story about Demi Moore:

"IT seems Demi Moore might have insecurities like the rest of us.

"The 42-year-old beauty was apparently reluctant to be shot from certain angles on a campaign for top fashion house Versace, we're told.

"Our spy on the set of the Mario Testino shoot - which took place in the snapper's London studio - reveals: 'Demi wanted to make sure she looked her best.'"

What angles? Demi Moore is fucking outrageously gorgeous anywhere you look.

Out: Chris Klein. Poor goddamned bastard. It's not Chris Klein's year. First you lose a delicious morsel such as Katie Holmes, now this (Averted Gaze). According to TheSmokinggun:

"Chris Klein, the 26-year-old 'American Pie' star, who was arrested in February after San Diego sheriff's deputies pulled over a 2003 BMW he was driving. As a result of the traffic stop, Klein was charged with two misdemeanors, each of which carry a maximum of six months in jail upon conviction. According to a Superior Court criminal complaint, Klein had a blood alcohol content of .20 or higher, which is more than twice the California limit of .08. We're guessing that Klein's February 5 collar was not originally reported since he was charged under his full name, Frederick Christopher Klein. The actor, whose arraignment has been rescheduled for later this month, was booked into a sheriff's lockup, where he got fingerprinted and posed for the below mug shot. Klein's booze bust came a month before he and tasty actress Katie 'Dawson's Creek' Holmes announced that they had broken off their engagement after dating for five years. Now that should make a guy hit the bottle."

Oh poor Chris Klein, not for anything thats happened to him, but for simply having the name frederick, that and for him possibly being the worst actor in the American Pie movies.

Terry Zwigoff's "Crumb-"a doc. film on R.Crumb and family- is soo worth checking out, if you haven't seen it. Disorienting and disturbing at times, but v.v. touching.

Yeah, I love Crumb's comics about the lives of blues musicians in the 20s. Crumb is definitely "In"
